OpenAI just announced they’re doing a festive AI release spree called ’12 days of shipmas’ starting December 5th. They’re planning to drop something new each day, including their text-to-video AI tool Sora and a new reasoning model.
Sora has been in invite-only testing with hundreds of artists throughout 2024. Some artists leaked parts of the model recently, protesting what they called ‘unpaid R&D and PR.’ Despite the controversy, former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati confirmed Sora will launch by year end.
Google isn’t sitting idle – they just released their own video AI called Veo through their Vertex AI platform. Veo came out three months after OpenAI first revealed Sora.
One of the 12 days might bring a Santa voice to ChatGPT. Users spotted code swapping the voice button for a snowflake icon.
OpenAI employees are building excitement on social media. The Sora team lead Bill Peebles responded to claims that OpenAI is ‘unbelievably back’ with just one word: ‘Correct.’
This release spree shows OpenAI moving fast to maintain their lead in AI development. The combination of Sora and a new reasoning model suggests they’re pushing ahead on both creative and analytical AI capabilities.
