Recently, I’ve been cloning hyped-up AI tools with Claude in about 15 minutes. It’s shockingly easy and exposes how overhyped many of these projects are.
Take FiveThirtyNine, a so-called “revolutionary prediction machine”. I cloned it quickly and called my version FiveThirtyTen. Yesterday, there was 3124 – a “quantum search engine” that couldn’t even generate clickable results. My clone, 3125, actually let you click through to pages.
I’m blown away that tools this basic are getting hyped up and released without core features. It really highlights how much smoke and mirrors there is in the AI startup world right now.
Cloning these projects is trivially easy with modern AI tools. I just feed Claude the basic concept and have it spit out a simple implementation. In most cases, I end up with a more functional tool than the original in a fraction of the time.
This isn’t to say there aren’t legitimately impressive AI projects out there. But there’s a flood of half-baked ideas getting way more attention than they deserve. As an AI consultant, I see way too many clients chasing shiny objects instead of focusing on practical applications.
If you’re evaluating AI tools for your business, don’t get caught up in the hype. Look at the actual functionality and consider if a teenager could replicate it in an afternoon. Chances are, the real value comes from thoughtful integration into your workflows, not from chasing the latest viral AI startup.

In the meantime, I’ll keep exposing overhyped projects one clone at a time. It’s a dirty job, but someone’s gotta do it.
