Claude Just Made Style Matching Dead Simple

I’ve been telling everyone for months that Claude is better at style matching than ChatGPT, and now Anthropic has built this capability right into their platform. The new custom styles feature lets you upload examples of your writing and creates a personalized style profile for Claude to follow.

I’ve tested both extensively, and here’s the truth: Even if I give ChatGPT tons of writing samples, it barely deviates from its default voice. With expert prompting, I can get it maybe halfway to matching my style, but it’s still noticeably different. Claude, on the other hand, picks up on the nuances of vocabulary, sentence structure, and tone much more effectively.

Before this update, I had already built custom projects in Claude specifically for analyzing writing samples and creating detailed style guides. It would break down vocabulary preferences, sentence patterns, common topics – everything that makes someone’s writing distinct. Now Anthropic has essentially automated this process and made it accessible to everyone.

GitLab is already using this feature to standardize their communication across teams. Their product lead for AI, Taylor McCaslin, highlighted how Claude maintains consistent voice while adapting to different contexts – from technical documentation to marketing materials.

This ties into what I discussed in my post about GPT-4o (https://adam.holter.com/gpt-4o-november-2024-a-deep-dive-into-openais-latest-creative-powerhouse/), where I compared the capabilities of different AI models. While GPT-4o excels in many areas, Claude has carved out a clear advantage in style matching.

The people who have only used ChatGPT for writing are starting to realize what they’ve been missing. Claude’s ability to truly adapt to your voice makes it invaluable for maintaining brand consistency and personal writing style across all your content.

This isn’t just another AI feature – it’s a practical solution to a real problem that content creators and businesses face daily. The ability to maintain a consistent voice across all communications, without constant manual oversight, is incredibly powerful.

If you’re still relying solely on ChatGPT for your content creation, it’s worth giving Claude’s custom styles feature a try. The difference in style matching capability is striking, and it could transform how you approach AI-assisted writing.
